Tree Surgeons SolihullWoodland and Forestry Management
An important part of our work is conservation and woodland management. Our aim is to preserve woods and forests for generations to come and to do so in a sustainable and eco-friendly way. Did you know that over two-thirds of woodland in the UK is privately owned? That confers a responsibility on landowners to carefully manage all types of woodland.
When you fly over the UK you’ll notice how much countryside is around us once you get outside urban areas like Birmingham. Of the land you can see, much is covered in trees and although they’re pretty good of taking care of themselves, they also benefit from judicious management, especially if you want to gain an income from woodland. Research has been done to show that there are huge mental and physical benefits to spending time in woods but sadly we have fewer woods than anywhere else in Europe. Less than 12% of the UK is wooded, compared to 30% of the world surface; Europe has four times the amount of tree coverage as we do. So it’s even more important that we care for our woodland trees, especially in ancient woodland areas. The Woodland Trust is doing a great job in establishing new forests nationwide and hopefully tree coverage in the UK will increase in the future. Woodlands provide food and shelter for a lot of wildlife, as well as giving us somewhere peaceful to take a stroll or walk the dog. But on a more practical note, valuable timber can be harvested in a sustainable manner, whilst improving woodland for the future. With woodburners becoming so popular, demand for logs is at a high level and we have these available from our yard. Please contact us if you’d like to purchase logs in any quantity. To get the best from your forestry areas, we advise taking care of your trees, clearing undergrowth where necessary and coppicing where appropriate. We can help you to manage your woodland with a planned approach to ensure the health of your trees for years to come. Sustainable forest management means different things to different landowners. We want to understand your objectives and exactly what you want to achieve from your land. You may own a block of amenity woodland with the aim of providing recreation for you and your family and enjoy conserving wildlife. Or perhaps you shoot and are putting in place a game management strategy; or you could be aiming to produce fuel for personal or commercial use. Whatever you want from your land, whether it be coppicing, undergrowth clearance or invasive species management, we will help you achieve. And if you want to plant new woodland trees and have help to manage them as your wood develops, we have the expertise and the proper equipment to provide a cost-effective service. Establishing a small copse or a new wood is an exciting prospect and we’d love to be part of your project and are happy to offer free advice.
